JP-80x0 Hardware Editor software

Finally time to make an official announcement of the next upcoming product I’ve been working together with Arto Vaarala. The Roland JP-8000 & JP-8080 AudioUnit & VST plugin editor.

This plugin is made to control your external hardware synth via MIDI. This plugin won’t produce sound!

It’s on the beta stage at the moment and final adjustments are taking place now. It’s working on 32 & 64-bit modes on VST and AU formats on MAC.
PC softwares & formats hasn’t been tested yet as we’re coding the plugin on OS X.

PC USERS: Win release will follow later :)

What it can do:
- Load in as an AudioUnit or VST for MAC (32 & 64 bit INTEL only!)
- Edit both layers separately from single plugin window.
- Link layers to edit both layers at the same time.
- Scroll thru User Performances (U:11 – U:88) from Hardware.
- Sends out all parameter values when you open up your project with the plugin or load a saved patch.
- MIDI & SysEx transmission between the DAW and the Hardware (requires MIDI interface).
- Patches saved within your daw are scrollable.
- Load and Save banks to and from your HDD.
- Edit almost every function of your JP. JP-8080 and JP-8000 incompatible parameters marked with **.
- All important parameters can be automated.

What it won’t do:
- Transmit any audio.
- Save patches directly to your hardware. (maybe in future version!)
- Voice modulator parameters are not available (you can do this from your hardware).
- External audio inputs not selectable (you can do this from your hardware).

Known “issues”:
- Arp / internal Tempo knob and Solo switch functions not working with Request function, but instead, the values are sent when scrolling thru the patches.

Still to-do before initial release:
- Layer sync button. done 25.02.2013
- Sysex request from synth. done 09.03.2013
- User presets (U:xx) scrollable with the plugin. done 18.03.2013
- Saving to HDD and loading from HDD. done 09.03.2013
- SysEx in (to address sysex msg to the knobs and buttons). done 11.03.2013
- Midi in (to address midi msg to the knobs and buttons). done 14.03.2013
- Part of global settings. done 03.03.2013
- Part of Arp parameters. done 28.02.2013
- Graphical finishing. done 17.03.2013
- Mac AU & VST beta testing. We’re on it ATM =) done
- Serial protection and demo package.

VST / AU DAW’s tested (in 32 and 64-bit modes):
- Apple Logic Pro 7 and up – working!
- Ableton Live 7 and up – working!
- Motu Digital Performer 8 – working! (vst & au)
- Cocos Reaper – Working!
- Steinberg Cubase 7 – working!

Pricing: 49,95 EUR (VST & AU) Lifetime updates.

  5. Awesome. Been waiting for something like this forever…

  6. PLEASE develop your tools plattform indipendable ;-) !!!!! I would love to handle my JP8000 over my (windows) laptop… :-(

  7. Hey, there will be windows version out too, but first we need to clear out the MAC project from the table :-)

  8. Super idea of bringing back those editor! If you plan to do one for the Virus C that works on mac os x 10.5+, let me know!!!!

  9. Yeah I’ve planned to develop a Virus Editor too (like the TI-plugin) but there are few plugins that needs to be done first ;-)

  10. Will it recall sounds as a VST plugin would? (i.e. The current state of the plugin when the song was saved, rather than recalling a patch saved on the hardware?) So, does it send to the temporary buffers?

  11. Yes, this plugin sends the current values from the plugin to hardware temp buffer when you open the project. :)
It also sends the knob / button values to temp buffer when loading patch from HDD.

    (both tested and working)

  12. Pleaaase ! Cannot wait….

    I want this

  14. Why change the look and controls and not stick to the original? Would gladly pay for it if it looked exactly like my jp-8080.

  15. The gui is almost identical. The gui doesn’t matter really, it’s the controls and the idea of this plugin whats worth paying for :)

  16. Hi. Cant wait)) Will it work with Cubase 7?

  17. If you’re using Mac with VST, then you should be alright with it. But we will post updates during the process of the plugins compatibility :)

  18. Will the Windows version work within Sony Acid Music Studio 8 when it comes out?

  19. Who knows, we will try to make it work on as many daws as possible.

  20. This is so awesome.. Been googling this every now and then and suddenly its reality! Make one for the MS2000R and I will love you even more! :D

  21. Cool! I want one too :) Good work!

  22. Thumbs up for this great work. When a Windows version is available I will buy it immediately.

  23. Mikki: I will make one for ms2000 as well :)

  24. As I said, now I love you even more! :D

  25. “The gui is ALMOST identical. The gui doesn’t matter really…” I think you maybe lost me there…

  26. MGL: sorry I don’t understand what you mean.
